Swift Nature Group

Pupils from years 2 to 6 have been learning about Swifts. They have been inspired by information from the local Swift Nature group. Did you know a swift never lands, but drinks, feeds and sleeps on the wing?

Swifts fly to us here in Llanidloes every year from Africa. The High School students have built swift boxes, over 40 have been put up around our town. The local Llanidloes Swifts group hosted an art competition – our school sent over 160 entries. The standard by judges Sandy Craig and Osian Gwent, was said to be very high.

However, congratulations to our lucky winners.

In Year 2 winners were Lola (£25 art voucher for Oriel Davies), runners up Olivia and Nessie with bird ID books gifted by the Great Oak Bookshop.

In key stage two, first prize was a team effort by Bella, Isla, Dottie, Oscar, Carrie and Ossie. Between them they share £60 of vouchers for the Oriel Davies Gallery shop in Newtown.

Runners up were  Anwen, Ruby, Sion and Bertie, who each received a book about Swifts.

Thank you to Compton’s Yard Trust and the volunteers at Llanidloes Swifts who contributed to the prizes.
