Our Year 3 classes have been learning about meadow flowers and their importance in our natural world. Both classes visited New Chapel Hay Meadows where they worked with Joe Arrowsmith, learning about the diversity of meadow plants and animals. All pupils used old tents and broken umbrellas to upcycle into a kite under the expertise of Terri Sweeney.
Learners found out about the life of Cicely Mary Barker, who 100 years ago, created Flower Fairies. Children then used watercolours to create their own designs inspired by the meadow environment. The day was rounded off with local Dairy Dreams ice cream. We were lucky to embrace sunshine, using yurts as outdoor classrooms, to make for a memorable day.
