Congratulations to Mrs Ashton’s class who won the school competition for TT Rockstars. They also placed 3rd in Wales for the overall most points scored. A huge achievement but no wonder, look at the concentration on their faces.

Pupils from years 2 to 6 have been learning about Swifts. They have been inspired by information from the local Swift Nature group. Did you know a swift never lands, but drinks, feeds and sleeps on the wing?
In R.V.E. (religion, values, ethics) year 5 and 6 are thinking about “The Journey of Life”. You may have had questions at home about how your felt upon your child’s arrival and shared stories about your child’s birth and first days.
The Eco Committees of both the High School and Primary School met to carry out a litter pick on both premises. Working in teams the pupils did an excellent job of spring cleaning the area.
Mrs Ashton’s class visited the Minerva Art Centre to see the work of our local Heritage Quilters. They studied the quilts and enjoyed seeing the themes of dragons, the sea and flowers. Congratulations to our swim team. We had a very successful first round at the Powys Schools Swimming Gala. Many of these children will take part in the next round. A high level of sportsmanship was shown, we were very proud. Many thanks to DMPROcoach for organising the event.
Year 5/6 enjoyed an Indoor athletics session today with Gemma and our Bronze Ambassadors. Thank you Gemma for coming in and supporting our learners.

Year 5 pupil Mason asked that children at his school Ysgol Gynradd Llanidloes to wear blue – the official colour of diabetes awareness. The school’s heartfelt gesture raised £72.15 from 50p donations.
Year 3/4 have been learning to use tools to renew our site boundary, and have been recording themselves as t.v presenters to explain the process.
Mrs Ashton’s class have been learning about how chocolate is produced. Carol from Coco Pzazz visited the class. She shared lots of information, as well as passing round cocoa pods and different types of chocolate. Needless to say, the class were really inspired to record their learning!
Year 5/6 children took part in a fascinating workshop with Neil Lawrence learning about The Windrush.
Today we have been learning about how to be kind to each other and treat everyone with respect.
The Eco Committee have been working with Keep Wales Tidy to collect crisp packets. In an assembly, we learned that the waste packets are used to make rescue blankets for homeless people here in Wales. Year 5 and 6 have been learning about firework safety.
Mrs Ashton’s class went shopping at our local Coop. It was the perfect place for a maths lesson – price comparisons can be quite a challenge.
The learners enjoyed a big write session this morning where they wrote their 500 words competition entry.
Pupils in Year 3 and 4 had a wonderful time when they were visited by Simon Airey from Corner Exotics recently. Gemma Owen from Sports Powys worked with our Bronze Ambassadors to lead basketball sessions to our learners.
Miss Rees’ class have visited the Wild Oak Cafe, Llanidloes to view an art exhibition by local artist, Amanda Skipsey. We enjoyed looking at the art on display and had a hot chocolate.
Mrs Ashton’s class have been baking. They worked in small groups to produce 72 flapjacks and 72 chocolate chip cookies. These were sold at 50p each in almost 72 seconds! This year our Eco Committee have helped in a school assembly. They welcomed Laura from Keep Wales Tidy to introduce “Coral”, a fish from the Ironworks at Oswestry. Coral is currently resident at the front of school. Our intention is to fill Coral by the 27th October with crisp packets?
Today we have being exploring the forest, using magnifying glasses. We have also made shelters for the animals and being on ‘Senses Hunt’ around the forest.

This morning we had a wonderful, inspirational performance from the British Army. They also were teaching us about rhythm, pitch, scales and tempo.
This year, dosbarth Melangell has been visiting Crocs, to work alongside the pre-school children. We went over in small groups for three sessions. We used our skills including playing with children, reading and being a good example.
We had so much fun doing the dragon topic. We had a lot of adventures like finding evidence of dragons in our school grounds- we found claw marks on trees and footprints on the floor, and we found dragon droppings on the yard! On the 23rd of March we were very lucky to take part in a workshop with Ian and Huw Ynyr from Mid Wales Opera. How exciting to have a world-renowned opera singer in our school!
Today we have been on a coronation parade around Llanidloes wearing our beautiful crowns and waving our banners. We had a special lunch and a talent show in the hall. We also made some delicious muffins to celebrate the occasion.
The Criw Cymraeg gratefully received a donation of £250 from Milwyn Jenkins & Jenkins. The money donated will be used for buying Welsh books for the school. The school is currently working extremely hard to achieve the gold award in the Cymraeg Campus. This donation is gratefully appreciated. Thank you very much.

Year Six enjoyed an afternoon at the high school investigating how different compounds can cause different flame colours. They all worked scientifically and safely and are very much looking forward to more exciting Science lessons come September.
Dosbarth Twm Sion Cati have been involved in many exciting music lessons this term. They have had strings, where they are learning to play the violin and cello, like being part of a professional orchestra. They have also had the opportunity to write verses for an opera workshop and had them sung back to them.
Year 1 have been learning about the folk tale Cantre’r Gwaelod. Gini Wade a local artist from Llanidloes was an illustrater for one of the Cantre’r Gwaelod books. We were delighted to have her join us in class to share her skills. Thank you, Gini, for a fantastic morning learning all about artwork.

Today we celebrated World Book day. The children had a fun buddy reading session with the older children.
Today we celebrated Dydd Gwyl Dewi. The children dressed up in Welsh clothes and Mrs Chennetier played the harp in the assembly. Year 1 children went to Maes y Wennol to sing Welsh songs. They also enjoyed tasting Bara Brith.

Today we had a fantastic afternoon having a Welsh silent disco. We listened to many amazing Welsh artists and bands such as Dafydd Iwan, Candelas, Cyw, Yws Gwynedd, Bwncath and many more.
We have been learning about an old Welsh tradition. We had fun making a Perllan and going around classes singing the ‘Blwyddyn Newydd Dda song’ with the Fari Lwyd.
It’s Santes Dwynwen day on January 25th . We have been busy making love spoons, cards and drawing roses. Diwrnod Santes Dwynwen hapus i bawb.
What FUN we had in the snow! We made snow people, snow angels, we wrote our names in the snow, and even started a snow house. It was a great day.
